Cornwall County Championships 2008

County Qualifyiers

The following swimmers achieved County qualifying times and represented Bodmin Dragons in March at the Cornwall County ASA Championships. Credit should go to Simon Darbourne for his dedication and hard work coaching enabling these young athletes to compete. Bodmin Dragons Swimming Club wishes everyone good luck.

Cornwall County ASA Teams Gala

15 March 2008

After the ‘County Blocks’ 11 Clubs from all over Cornwall converged at the Dragon Leisure Centre to compete in the Cornwall County ASA Teams Gala. All Bodmin Teams swam well in tough competition and it was the first major gala for some of our younger swimmers. Unfortunately the boys’ teams were somewhat depleted by sickness and prerequisite commitments but this did not deflect from the fact that there were some great times gained.

“Stop Press” - Gold Medal:

A Bodmin girls’ team consisting of Rebecca Matulewicz, Rosie Andrews, Mollie Griffiths and Rachael Brown took the Gold in the Womens Open 400M Medley by a clear 3 second lead over Truro City with a time of 4:54:54.

Silver Medals were taken in the following events:

 

Womens 13/14 Yrs 200M Medley Team: Jess Goundry, Rosie Andrews, Lauren Kellaway and Ellen Wright.

Womens 15/Under 400M Medley Team: Lauren Kellaway, Rosie Andrews, Mollie Griffiths and Cally Hoskin.

Womens Open 400M Freestyle Team: Rachael Brown, Rebecca Matulewicz, Rosie Andrews and Cally Hoskin.

Bronze Medal:

Womens 13/14 Yrs 200M Free Team: Jess Goundry, Rosie Andrews, Ellen Wright and Ellie Gigg.

Individual Events

Gold Medals:

Rosie Andrews who was having a wonderful championship added more Gold’s to her tally by winning the 14 Years and Under Female 200M Breaststroke with a time of 2:54:48 which qualified for the Championship Final where she took the Silver in a time of 2:52:03. On Sunday she went on to win Gold in the 14 Years and Under Female 200M Butterfly in 2:38:25 and qualified for the Championship Final where she won Bronze. Rosie also took Gold in 14 Years and Under 100M Female Breaststroke with a time of 1:22:32, this was another qualification for the Championship Final. In the 14 Years and Under Female 400M Freestyle she took the Gold in a time of 4:39:29

Rachael Brown also having a good competition won Gold Medals in the 16 Years and Under Female 200M Breaststroke with a time of 2:55:69, this gave her a qualifying time for the County Championship final. She also took the Gold in the 16 Years and Under Female 100M Individual Medley with a time of 1:12:36 which also gave her another qualifying time for the Championships Final where she took the Bronze in 1:11:12.

Ollie Hart continued winning for Bodmin by taking Gold’s in the 15 Years and Under Male 100M Backstroke in a time of 1:07:90, the 15 Years and Under Male 200M Individual Medley in 2:31:90, and the 15 Years and Under Male 200M Backstroke in a time of 2:28:29, this was a qualifying time for the Championship Final.

Not to be out done Alex Welland won the Gold in the 15 Years and Under Male 200M Freestyle with a time of 2:18:37 and on Sunday at Bodmin he went on to add to his growing cluster of medals by taking Gold in the 15 Years and Under Male 50M Breaststroke with a time of 35:15. This was a qualifying time for the Championship Final. Alex went on to take yet another Gold in the 15 Years and Under Male 100M Freestyle with a time of 59.38.

Adding to the Gold’s he won last weekend Steven Harris took another Gold in the 13 Years and Under Male 50M Butterfly with a time of 33:74.


Silver Medals:

Rosie Andrews: 14 Years and Under Female 100M Butterfly, 14 Years and Under Female 100M Individual Medley, 14 Years and Under Female 50M Freestyle and the 14 Years and Under Female 50M Backstroke.

Rachael Brown: 16 Years and Under Female 100M Butterfly and the 16 Years and Under Female 100M Breaststroke in a time of 1:21:46; which was a qualifying time for the Championship Final where she took Silver in 1:20:76.

Jonathan Webb: 17 Years and Over Male 50M Breaststroke in a time of 34:68; which was a qualification time for the Championship Final where he took the Silver Medal in 33:3.

Alex Welland: 15 Years and Under Male 200M Individual Medley.

Ollie Hart: 15 Years and Under Male 50M Butterfly.

Ross Marsden: 16 Years and Under Male 50M Breaststroke.

Josh Solomon: 13 Years and Under Male 50M Breaststroke.

Steven Harris: 13 Years and Under Male 200M Individual Medley and the 13 Years and Under Male 100M Freestyle.

Joseph Andrews: 10 Years and Under Male 50M Breaststroke.

Will Slater: 11 Years and Under Male 200M Freestyle, 11 Years and Under Male 50M Butterfly and the 11 Years and Under Male 400M Individual Medley.

Bronze Medals:

Rebecca Matulewicz: 17 Years and Over Female 50M Backstroke.

Josh Solomon: 13 Years and Under Male 50M Butterfly and the 13 Years and Under Male 400M Individual Medley.

Steven Harris: 13 Years and Under Male 100M Backstroke and the 13 Years and Under Male 200M Backstroke.

Lauren Kelleway: 14 Years and Under Female 100M Butterfly.

Rachael Brown: 16 Years and Under Female 50M Freestyle.

Alexander Toptani: 12 Years and Under Male 100M Backstroke.

Ross Marsden: 16 Years and Under Male 100M Freestyle.

Will Slater: 11 Years and Under Male 50M Backstroke.

British Age Group Category Awards (BAGCATS)

In addition to the fantastic successes of our swimmers the following will be receiving BAGCATS awards on the 13 April at the CCASA Awards Ceremony to be held in Newquay.

5th Joseph Andrews 10 Years and Under, 4th Will Slater 11 Years and under, 2nd Steven Harris 13 years and under, 4th Josh Slomon 13 years and under, 8th Robin Stewart 13 years and under and 7th Jessica Goundry 13 years and under.

Cornwall County ASA Championships –

Distances and the Club 200M relays

2 & 3 February 2008


Rosie Andrews swimming for Dragons took the Gold Medal in the Women’s Open 800M Freestyle 15 years and Under (Junior Championship) with a time of 9:40:87 and went on to get the Silver in the 800M Freestyle Open Age Group (Senior Championship) on 2nd February 2008 at Truro.

On the 3rd of February 2008 Dragons had teams in each category of the 800m Freestyle Relay and Ross Marsden, Alex Welland, James Holman and Ollie Hart took the Silver Medal in Men’s 15/18 Years Category. Not to be outdone by the ‘boys’ Rachael Brown, Becky Mateluwicz, Rosie Andrews and Lauren Kelleway also won the Silver Medal in the Women’s 14/17 Years 800M Freestyle Relay.

Ensuring Dragons continued being on the winners podium Steven Harris took the Gold Medal and achieved a Competition Best Time in the Boys Open 800M Freestyle 13 Years Age Group with a time of 10:35:13, Josh Solomon won the Silver Medal in the same event. Both swimmers went on to achieve Silver and Bronze Medals respectively in the 800M Freestyle 15 Years and Under (Junior Championship).

In the Women’s 1500M 15 Years and Under Age Group Rosie Andrews went on to win the Gold Medal with a Junior County Championship Time and a 14 year old Competition Best Time 18:30:60 and took the Silver in the 1500M Freestyle Open Age Group (Senior Championship).
